However, the popularity that poker enjoys today is undoubtedly due to the WSOP (World Series of Poker), among other factors.

In poker, there are a lot of strategies you can follow to win some pots, hopefully. One of these strategies is to act against limpers. In this article, we will try to give you some tips on stopping your opponents from limping.

1. Strategy against limping on Preflop

How you can counter a limper pre-flop depends on a few circumstances, such as your stack depth, the skill level of the limper, and, of course, the aggressiveness of the other players.

However, there are 2 main strategies when dealing with a pre-flop limper. The first option is to play tighter. When a player limps pre-flop, it says one thing that he might have a good hand. If you are not just two of you in this play, you are dealing with 2 players who probably have good hands.

On the other hand, if you have seen one player make frequent open-limps, that might indicate that this player is also calling with weak hands. In such cases, you can force the limper to fold his hand with a 3-bet raise or more (depending on the limper's stack). This strategy has proven to be the best play against often limpers, as you have 3 opportunities to win the pot: pre-flop, mid-game (turn, river), or showdown.

2. Strategy against limping on Postflop

Now let us try to talk about post-flop strategies. This depends on your hand, the flop, and of course, your opponent. On low flops like 5,6,8, if you have a pair of QQ or even 99, you can consider a big raise, something between 60 and 80% of the pot. This strategy often scares limpers on the flop unless they are close to a straight or two pair.

Now suppose the flop is a high board of A,8,2. In this case, you can use the same strategy as above. However, it does not matter how high your raise will be on this flop because the limper will fold his hand if he did not even hit a pair.
