Power distribution companies on Monday said that they are yet to receive any directive from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission as regards tariff suspension.

The Discos were confused regarding the decision of the Federal Government and the labour unions about the electricity hike reversal.

Senior officials of power distribution companies said on Monday that they are still waiting for the NERC to come up with the new tariff plan to be implemented within the two weeks as agreed by the Federal Government and labour unions.

According to a Punch News report, up until 7 PM Monday, no directive has been given to Discos by the NERC as regards the issue.

Also, it was gathered that the Discos told the regulator that it would take about 3-4 days for them to change their billing/vending platforms and to return to the old tariffs.

A senior official of Discos who spoke on the grounds of anonymity said, "There is no communication yet from the regulator on that matter, and I wonder how that can be implemented because right now, it is causing confusion in the power sector".

Also, according to some other sources at the commission, there had been prolonged meetings on the matter at the NERC headquarters in Abuja. However, as of Monday evening, Discos was yet to receive any directives.

"The whole thing is a bit complicated now. There have been a series of meetings about it since (Monday) morning.

"But up till this time (7 PM) that you are speaking to me, no order has been issued on this matter to power distributors", an anonymous NERC official said.

A top official of one of the Discos who was present at the meeting also confirmed that the regulator hadn't told them exactly what to do.
