The leader of Boko Haram Abubakar Shekau has revealed the number of rice farmers killed in Borno state. According to Shekau, the group killed 78 rice farmers contrary to the 43 reported by the Nigerian army.

The Nigerian Army reported earlier that over 40 rice farmers were killed by Boko Haram sects in Borno State. Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum also told journalists that 43 rice farmers were killed.

However, a video was released on Tuesday, by the Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, where he boasted about killing the 78 rice farmers in Borno state.

In the video, Shekau said it was 78 farmers that were killed and not 43 as earlier announced by the Nigerian army and Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum.

Why rice farmers were killed in Borno State

In the video obtained by HumAngle, Shekau said the farmers were killed for collaborating with the Nigerian army. According to him, some of the farmers arrested its members and handed them to the Nigerian military.

“You think you can arrest our brother and hand him to soldiers and live in peace. You think Allah will forget what you have done to our brother."

The Boko haram leader warned that the same fate would behold those in collaboration with the army if they don’t repent.
