Four able-bodied young men suspected to be internet fraudsters have been reported dead with three hospitalized at Ajanomi Area in Abraka Community in Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

Though details of what led to the death of the victims were still sketchy, it was reported that seven of them ate indomie and egg and after which, they fell unconscious.

The conscious one said that last night, they prepared egg and indomie, and after some time, he started feeling somehow. By the time he checked, others were already lying down.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “All seven boys with unknown source of livelihood, stay in the apartment.

It was the seventh occupant who raised the alarm after he claimed to have discovered that some of his roommates were unconscious as he too was feeling uncomfortable.

“They were immediately rushed to General Hospital, Abraka where the four were confirmed dead while the unconscious two were subsequently referred to the Government/Baptist hospital, Eku for treatment.

The source also disclosed that two of the victims are siblings of the same mother with the third victim being their cousin.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Hafiz Inuwa confirmed the report.

He, however, said the Police cannot say the exact cause of the death,” Only the hospital can say that. Whatever we say now will amount to a rumour. We are not medical personnel.”

In the same vein, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya also confirmed the report.

She said, “The DPO has called me. He said at about 2:30 am this morning, a vigilante member called them that an offensive odour was coming out of a room.

"So, they went there. When they got there, they found out that one room, a single room, was being occupied by seven occupants and four people were already dead while one was unconscious.”

According to DSP Onovwakpoyeya, “The DPO said their stomachs were swollen, and their skins were already peeling as if they poured hot water on them.

"Later we realized that they’re suspected internet fraudsters. We noticed they’re not students because they had to get the caretaker who said he actually rented the room to one person.

He brought others. But this time around, they’re seven. They’re not students of the Delta State University."
