Passengers burnt beyond recognition in Anambra auto crash

An accident that happened along Ihiala road on Anambra that burnt passengers beyond recognition.

Anambra State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Andrew Kumapayi, had said that the accident that happened along Ihiala/Onitsha road on Sunday burnt passengers beyond recognition.

Kumapayi said that they were yet to know the actual number of people that died in the accident because they were burnt beyond recognition.

“This evening, alone fatal road traffic crash was allegedly caused by tyre burst as a result of excessive speeding. The vehicle somersaulted and burst into flames.

The Anambra State fire service was contacted, and the FRSC rescue team from Ihiala Unit Command were on ground to ensure the free flow of traffic, while all obstructions are being cleared."

The Road Safety commander Kumapayi equally said that the corpse of the only male adult who jumped out of the vehicle in the process had been deposited at the Morgue at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Ihiala.

In a similar incident, it was also reported that three persons died while others injured in an accident that occurred in Akungba Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State on Sunday night.

It was gathered that the crash was caused by a truck that lost control and rammed into some vehicles by the roadside.

According to an eye witness report, the dead passengers were initially trapped inside the vehicles, adding that those who sustained injuries were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Ondo Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps also confirmed the incident.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mrs Tola Ogunbanwo, three people have been confirmed dead while 11 are injured.

“The accident was caused by brake failure of one of the vehicles involved. Three died and 11 injured.”
