Rape and murder of Uniben student: Police parade six suspects

The police, on Wednesday evening, paraded six persons believed to have been involved in the killing of 100 level University of Benin Student, Vera Uwaila Omozuwa.

The Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo Identified the suspects as Nelson Ogbebor, Akato Valentine, Mrs Tina Samuel, Mrs Mary Ade, Nosa Osabohien and Collins Ulegbe.

One of the suspected killers, Collins Uligbe, confessed that her landlady, Mrs Mary Ade, gave them N1 million to kill the student.

Collins who said that he was asked by the landlady to wipe Uwaila’s private part with a handkerchief so that she could use it for ritual purposes and prosper in her business.

However, the landlady denied the allegation.

According to a statement given by the commissioner of police, he said, “The matter was a great concern to the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Muhammed Adamu who sent to us here in Benin, Homicide experts to work with our policemen at the state criminal investigation department.

What we see today, is a result of the uniting efforts of the police to get at the root of the crime and today, I announce to you and make it public through this medium that the perpetrators have been arrested.

The postmortem results had actually confirmed that she was raped.”

The Commissioner also said “we have been able to recover a sizeable number of arms and ammunition that would have been used to disrupt the Edo 2020 gubernatorial election, on, before or after the election.

The Edo State Police Command will continue to ensure that we recover all arms and ammunition that are in private hands so that the Edo 2020 will be held in an atmosphere of peace.”

Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, is a 100-Level student of the Department of Microbiology, University of Benin.

She was reported to have been raped and killed by some unknown person while reading in a Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, in Benin City.

Her death has generated a lot of reactions from many Nigerians who tend to seek justice for her, ranging from the Governor of Edo state, IG of police, clergymen, celebrities down to common men.

It is a thing of Joy that the culprits are brought to book at last.
