The Federal Government of Nigeria has told the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to start making preparations ahead reopening its orientation camps in all states in the country.

The National Coordinator of presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Sani Aliyu revealed this on Thursday during a press briefing at Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.

Aliyu added that the government is arranging proper guidelines and protocols that will guide all the orientation camps in Nigeria to avoid spreading of the virus.

“For the National Youth Service Corps, the NYSC is to consolidate on safety measures currently being put in place and start preparing for the reopening of orientation camps when educational institutions open", Aliyu said.

“We are in the process of developing strict guidelines to ensure there is no outbreak of Covid-19 when this process starts.”

The NYSC orientation camp was shut down since March when the coronavirus outbreak surfaced to reduce its spread. Already serving corpers were also allowed to leave their place of primary assignment and return to their various homes as schools were also shut down.

It now looks like schools will be resuming soon as the corpers who are set to return to the orientation camp will be posted to different schools in Nigeria as their place of primary assignment.

Already serving corp members will also be gearing for their return to service when schools open.
