NYSC camps set to reopen on November 10th in a bid to calm tension in the country
The federal government of Nigeria has approved the reopening of all National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps on November 10, 2020
The approval of the camp reopening was revealed by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare on Thursday 15, 2020, through his Twitter handle.
According to Dare, the federal government said that for the safe reopening of camps, all corp members must obey the COVID-19 protocols and guidelines that had been stipulated.
“The Resumption of the NYSC Orientation Camp for prospective Youth Corpers has been approved and opens on November 10th 2020. Full COVID-19 Protocols will be enforced, " Dare tweeted.
The NYSC camps were forced to close by the federal government on March 18 as a safety measure against the coronavirus pandemic. The 2020 batch A corp members were asked to leave their various camps as a result.
The decision to reopen the NYSC camps comes after a long meeting with NYSC stakeholders and the federal government regarding a safe reopening.
According to the federal government, the number of new coronavirus cases has reduced as reported by the agency on Wednesday.
137 COVID-19 patients were discharged across the country in the last 24 hours, with the total number of successfully treated cases rising to 52,143.
The agency revealed that the country reported zero COVID-19 related death cases with the national death toll from the pandemic put at 1,116.
