Five corp members test positive for coronavirus in Abuja NYSC camp

The Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC Federal Capital Territory, Mrs Walida Isa, has stated that five prospective corp members of Batch B Stream 1A have tested positive for COVID-19.

The coordinator disclosed the positive result at the swearing-in of the 2020 Batch B Stream 1A corps members on Monday, November 16, 2020, at NYSC camp in Abuja.

According to Isa, the five people that tested positive for the virus have been taken to the hospital for further treatment.

She added that 853 corps members were registered after they were tested for coronavirus infection and returned negative.

In total, the number of corp members that were tested for the virus is 858, while 853 of them returned negative while five returned positive.

“The five that were positive were taken to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control for treatment. So they are not among the number we registered,” she said.

Isa said that the NYSC scheme would continue to follow the COVID-19 guidelines and protocols to make sure that every corp member is safe.

The 2020 Batch B Stream 1A orientation resumed camping on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, with strict compliance with COVID-19 guidelines and protocols as stipulated by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The resumption commenced with the coronavirus test that lasted for one week.
