In line with the preparation for the resumption of tertiary institutions, the Lagos State government has stated that only the final year students will be resuming on Monday, 14 September 2020.

The information was disclosed on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr Tokunbo Wahab during a speech as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme.

The schools that will be resuming in the state are Lagos State University, Lagos State Polytechnic, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Micheal Otedola College of Primary Education, Noforija- Epe and the Lagos Health Technology.

According to Tokunbo, Nigerians have to find a way to bring their life back to normalcy and that can only be achieved by starting with the educational sector.

He said, “Since we are at a point where scientifically we’ve been proven to have flattened the COVID-19 curve, it invariably means that we are not as exposed as we used to be some five, four, three months back.

“So, consequently, we have to find a way to bring our lives back to normal. And in doing that, education is very critical to whatever we are going to do".

Tokunbo said that the state government is ready for the resumption and has been preparing for it for a long time by putting in place some safety measures and medical facilities in tertiary schools.

“And in the past few weeks, we’ve been putting in place measures and facilities that will enable our children to come back to school beginning from next Monday after six months of closure", Tokunbo said.
