UNILAG: Visitation panel calls for memoranda from stakeholders
The Special Visitation Panel to the University of Lagos has called on the university community as well as its stakeholders to submit their memoranda on any of the terms of reference it announced.
A letter by the secretary to the panel, Mrs Grace Ekane, stated that the memorandum should be submitted to the panel on or before 2pm on Monday at the Council Chambers of the university.
The panel was chaired by Professor Tukur Sa'ad. It (the panel) has two weeks to submit its report.
The terms of reference, according to the letter which was titled, "Call for memoranda" are:
"To review the report of the Council sub-committee on the review of expenditure after affording all those indicated an opportunity to defend themselves; to examine the steps taken by the Council leading to the removal of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe;
"And ascertain whether due process was followed as stipulated in the universities (Miscellaneous Provision Amendment) Act 2003, and the principle of fair hearing adhered to;
"To determine whether the process (if any) leading to the appointment of the Ag. Vice-Chancellor for the university was consistent with the provisions of the enabling Act; to make appropriate recommendations, including sanctions, for all found culpable by the special visitation team on all allegations contained in the report as well as other subsequent actions arising therefrom;
"And to make any other recommendations that will assist the government to take decisions that will ensure peaceful, stable and effective administration of the university".
As regards the submission of the memoranda, the panel said, "A collection box will be placed at the Council Chamber from 8 am to 2 pm on Monday, August 31, 2020.
