The Nigerian music industry has had an influx of phenomenal talents, but in recent times a young teenage girl has caused a paradigm shift.

From singing music covers on Instagram to getting endorsed by a major record label, Ayra Starr has carved a niche for herself as the voice of Generation Z.

Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe (born June 14, 20o2), Ayra Starr, is Nigeria's and Mavin's biggest sensation. 

Recognized for her unique sound, a blend of comforting and bold, Ayra is a natural-born talent.

The Benin born represents a growing audience of young people called Gen Z.

Gen Z is a generation of young adults born between 1997 to 2012.

The 19-year old's is notorious for dishing unfiltered thoughts and raw perceptions lyrically.

In her newly released single Bloody Samaritan, Starr exudes confidence in every track: Fashion describes the mindset of Alté, a trend that gives expression to the power of being different. 

Her other tracks heavily emphasize the everyday episodes in the life of Gen Z. 

Joining her colleagues in the industry to resonate with young people's thoughts using music, Ayra is determined to transcend time and limitations with music.

The star artist's debut EP "Away" endeared her to many and fueled her career growth.

Spotify EQUAL Music Program is designed to promote gender equality in music and provide a platform to highlight influential female creative artists.

Ayra has now joined the train of powerful women revolutionizing music in Africa.

"Our aim with the EQUAL programme is to create a space on the platform that allows us to amplify the work of female creators solely.

Spotify's Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu, said

"Ayra represents the rise of new-age female artists whose creativity and determination breaks barriers between genres." 

The announcement trails her hit album Blood Samaritan and the global recognition it has received.

"It feels good to be a part of the generation that is changing the narrative and being appreciated for our contribution to society, irrespective of the sector and age.

I'm grateful to Spotify EQUAL for this feature that shines a light on women in a male-dominated industry. It makes me feel seen, and I'm sure it's done so for everyone who has featured before me," Ayra Starr said

Ayra's unconventional approach to music sparks exclusivity and recognition.

 Ayra Starr will feature on Spotify's Times Square billboard in New York, and her smashing hit, Bloody Samaritan, will steer the EQUAL Africa playlist and features on the EQUAL global playlist.

In an interview in September, the Bloody Samaritan singer said 

" I want younger girls to listen to my music. I want them to feel like they've been heard. If I don't speak on these matters, then what is the point?"

A critical trait of gen Z, Ayra, is not afraid to speak her mind in any situation. Proudly socially conscious, Ayra describes herself.

"I'm woke,"

She says, "I don't know how to hold back when it comes to speaking on social justice and all that. I can't help it."

Born and raised between Benin and Nigeria, Ayra is committed to protecting African sound in her music.

It's why she sings in pidgin, English and Yoruba.

Ayra Starr's ‘Away,’ hit number four on Nigeria’s Turn Table Top 50 and number 17 on the United States Billboard Top Thriller Global.

Ayra's ’19 and Dangerous’ in August 2021 accompanied by the single, ‘Bloody Samaritan,’ has generally received positive reviews. Thereafter, Ayra Starr debuted on the Pandora Predictions Chart and reached number three on the Billboard Next Big Sound Chart on August 21, 2021.
