Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie reveals her real Name in Interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu

During the “BlackBox Interview” with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie talked about her early years in Nsukka and its influence on her writing.

Chimamanda also discussed her recreational interests and the story behind her name.

Acoording to the Chimamanda,  Ngozi-Grace is her real name - she felt that Ngozi was common while Grace was more of her mother.

During her Confirmation (a catholic religious rite) she picked the name 'Amanda', then on moving to the USA for her studies, she found out it was also common.

The Nigerian writer added 'Chim' to 'Amanda' to come up with 'Chimamanda prior to the publication of her first book.
