SWAT will be like when NEPA changed to PHCN’ – Omokri
A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has reacted to the announcement made by the Inspector General of Police regarding replacing the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS with Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.
There has been a protest going on all over the nation to end police brutality against Nigerian citizens, especially from the men of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.
The EndSARS protest which commenced on Monday has lasted for three days all over the nation.
On Tuesday evening, the IGP made a public announcement informing the public that Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team has replaced the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT).
This gathered lots of reactions from Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora.
The IGP also ordered all operatives of the disbanded SARS to report in Abuja for debriefing and medical examination.
Reacting to the announcement, Reno Omokri tweeted, “The SWAT announced by the @PoliceIGP is a Greek Gift.
“Without weeding out errant cops and recruiting new blood, who must go through a different and better training than SARS, the SWAT will just be like when NEPA changed to PHCN.
Many other Nigerians believe that changing SARS to SWAT is not and will never be the solution to police brutality in the country but a total reform of the police force.
