EndSARS: Tuface reacts after being dragged to court over #EndSARS protest
Nigerian music legend, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2baba, has reacted to the criminal complaint filed against him and 49 others for supporting the EndSARS protests.
Tuface in a statement by his manager Efe Omorogbe described the suit as a mere social media trend.
“There’s no comment yet. We have not been served any paper. We have not received any formal summons.”
Tuface equally said that they could not respond to the charge until they receive a summon.
''We can’t respond to what is merely trending on social media. Until we receive a summon, we can’t respond.''
An activist, Kenechukwu Okeke, has filed a criminal complaint before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja against 50 persons for their alleged role in the #EndSARS protest.
Kenechukwu Okeke, the activist, said between October 28 and October 30, 2020, the defendants used their Twitter accounts to conspire amongst themselves to “commit a misdemeanour, promoting or acting in such a manner with the intent to assist in the promotion of an unlawful assembly under the guise or composition of #EndSARS”.
Okeke alleged that during the riot, his properties were destroyed and the defendants who promoted the #EndSARS protests must be brought to justice.
Okeke equally claimed that the offence was punishable under Section 97 (2) of the Penal Code Act, C53 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
