A US-based Nigerian doctor, Dr Stella Emmanuel is currently trending on social media after she delivered a speech where she claimed Hydroxychloroquine, Zithromax and Zinc were effective cures for COVID-19.

Dr Emmanuel spoke during a conference organized by a group of American doctors under the auspices of "America's Frontline Doctors" in Washington DC.

Emmanuel dismissed the warning of health experts that hydroxychloroquine could cause serious heart problems for COVID-19 patients while highlighting her experiences with the drug.

She said she had successfully used the drug which was once touted by President Trump to treat not fewer than 350 patients in combination with Zithromax and Zinc.

Trump reportedly retweeted two videos of the Dr promoting hydroxychloroquine as a cure for COVID-19. Twitter later removed the retweets from Trump and his son, which featured the video.

According to DailyMail, the video was viewed at least 14 million times by Monday afternoon. However, the clips were pulled down by Facebook and Twitter.

The post already had nearly 600,000 shares on Facebook before it was taken down for sharing false information, according to Crowdtangle, a data-analytics firm owned by Facebook.

A Facebook spokesperson told CNN, "We've removed this video for sharing false information about cures and treatments for COVID-19".

Dr Emmanuel had also said she had received several threats to have her practice revoked. But, she insisted she would continue to administer the drugs on COVID-19 patients to save more American lives.
