The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi has tested positive for COVID-19, an official announced on Monday.

Prof Abayomi is the man in the fore-front and leading Nigeria's commercial hub city, Lagos in the fight against COVID-19. It is quite unfortunate that the commissioner has tested positive for COVID-19.

When was the positive COVID-19 test result of the Lagos State Health Commissioner announced?

The Lagos Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho disclosed the health status of the health commissioner via a press release on Monday.

He announced that Prof Akin Abayomi tested positive to COVID-19 after being in contact with persons who tested positive for the virus.

The Lagos Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho announced that the State Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi tested positive to COVID-19 after contact with infected patients.

The statement read in part:

"Honourable Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi became aware of his status following the required testing protocol of contact tracing procedures.

"However, he is doing well with no symptoms".

Omotosho who also took to his Twitter account to make the announcement added that Mr Abayomi would self-isolate in his home for 14 days while adhering to the protocol of the home-based strategy in Lagos.

"The Honourable Commissioner will be isolating in his home for the next 14 days but will continue to discharge his duties both as the Deputy Incident Commander of the Incident Command System for COVID-19 and most especially, as the Honourable Commissioner for Health", he wrote
