A $20 million penthouse breaks record for the most expensive home sold in Brooklyn
A Brooklyn penthouse just closed for $20.3 million, becoming the most expensive home ever sold in the borough, Douglas Elliman confirmed to Business Insider. That's $3.6 million above the previous record, which was set when actor Matt Damon purchased a separate Brooklyn penthouse for $16.7 million in 2018.
The new priciest penthouse sits atop Quay Tower in Brooklyn Heights and spans 7,433 square feet. It comes with a 1,179-square-foot private terrace and expansive views of the Hudson and East rivers and of the Manhattan skyline.
Located in Quay Tower, a waterfront luxury building in the affluent Brooklyn Heights neighborhood, the penthouse is actually two units combined into a single residence with five bedrooms and 7,433 square feet of living space and a 1,179-square-foot private terrace, according to Douglas Elliman.
As Andrew Anderson of Douglas Elliman, who handled the sale, told Business Insider in 2018, "No other property in Brooklyn or New York City has this combination of ultra-high-end interiors and amenities paired with absolutely mesmerizing views of New York Harbor, the Downtown skyline and East River all the way beyond the Empire State Building." Brooklyn Heights is one of the borough's toniest neighborhoods, with a median home price of $1.4 million and a tendency to attract celebrities.
