Akpabio links Ibori, Kalu, Uduaghan, others to NDDC projects

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpaio has linked the former Delta State governors, James Ibori and Emmanuel Uduaghan as well the former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu to the contracts awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The list which also contained other prominent names like Senator Ifeanyi Ararume was submitted to the Speaker House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The letter was also copied to the office of the Attorney General of the Federation/Minister of Justice and was addressed to the Clerk to the House, Mr Patrick Giwa with the Reference Number, MNDA/HM/04/IV/158.

It bore the title, "Some Niger Delta Development Commission Contracts Allegedly Given to Some Members of the National Assembly (Senate and House of Representatives)."

The emergency projects reportedly linked to them according to the report were awarded in 2018 and costs between N400m and N560 million each.

Ibori was linked with the emergency repairs of Onoghove community road from Ajanesan to Western Delta University at the cost of N485.7m.

Uduaghan, on the other hand, was linked to the emergency repairs of Close B, Alhaji Estate and Environs, Rumuodomaya, Portharcourt at the cost of N429m.

Kalu, whose project document was identified as "OUK-Kalu", had five projects linked to him. The emergency repair road projects in Abia state which were linked to him ranged between N517m to N560m in costs.

The projects included the emergency repairs of Ezere-Acha-Ndiokoukwu Road (N517m), repair of Amaubiri-Eluama-Uru Ring Road, Lokpaukwu, Umuchieze (N560m).

Others still linked to Kalu are Ndi Oji Abam-Atan Road (N523.7m), Ozu-Amuru-Abam road (N523.4m) and Okafia-Ozuitem-Bende road at the cost of N508m.

Senator Ararume had one projects in Imo and Rivers states linked to him, but the full details of the projects were not indicated in the documents.

However, the NDDC document listed some of the projects to include, emergency repairs of the Anara-Okwelle-Umunna Road, Umuelemai-Aba branch road as well as the Okpara-Road junction-Ogili Community all in Imo state.
