Buhari hosts meeting with Obasanjo, Gowon, others amid #EndSARS protest
A news report has it that President Muhammadu Buhari has called for a meeting with former Nigerian leaders including Goodluck Jonathan, Olusegun Obasanjo, Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar.
Although details of the meeting are still sketchy and haven't been fully disclosed, it is believed to be about the #EndSARS protest for police reformation and the violent acts that have resulted from the protest.
The meeting is online as the former leaders participate virtually while Buhari presides from the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa.
Others present in the meeting include Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo; Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari; and the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd).
Security chiefs including Chief Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olanisakin; Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu; Director-General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi and the Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Rufai are also present in the meeting.
The President's Personal Assistant on New Media also gave a hint about the meeting in a Tweet saying, "President @MBuhari is hosting an unusual meeting (virtual) with former Heads of State, current heads of security agencies and top government officials, in attendance".
