The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has postponed the intended commencement of the Conditional Cash Transfer intervention in Zamfara state due to insecurity.

The cash transfer was extended to certain states with the aim of cushioning the effect of COVID-19 on Nigerians. The ministry also intends to give out loans, distribute fertilizer as well as hand over COVID-19 palliatives last weekend.

The ministry, however, postponed the launching of the programmes until further notice. According to a statement by Rhoda Ishaku Iliya, the Deputy Director of Information in the ministry, the reason for the postponement was the insecurity issues in the state.

Iliya said, "The ministry hereby informs all beneficiaries that a new date will be fixed and communicated to them as soon as possible".

In a recent attack to some villages in Maru and Talata Mafara local government areas of the state, bandits were reported to have killed 21 people and wounded 12 others.
