Top 3 Picks For NBA Player Of The Year 2021

The end of the regular season means that sights will quickly turn to the player awards that will be dished out over the coming months.

One of the most prestigious awards will be the MVP award, and there will be a number of players that will be in the mix when the award is handed out. But, which three players should rightfully be in the hunt for the MVP award this season.

Nikola Jokic

It would be hard to start anywhere else except for the player that many experts believe already has the award won. Jokic has enjoyed another excellent season in the NBA and has led the league in a number of stats.

The Serbian has scored the most double-doubles and is second on the list for most triple-doubles. He has averaged 26.2 points per game, which is the tenth highest in the league, and has been integral behind everything that the Denver Nuggets have achieved thus far.

He could yet have a massive say in the playoffs, as the Nuggets face another almighty battle to reach the latter stages of the Western Conference playoffs.

It has been his consistency that has really separated him from the pack this season, as he could become the first player since Kobe Bryant to win the award after playing in every game throughout the season.

Joel Embiid

Joel Embiid could be among the outside chances to win the MVP award, as he has enjoyed another excellent season in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Sixers finished the regular season at the top of the standings in the Eastern Conference, which was an excellent finish considering that many expected either the Milwaukee Bucks or Brooklyn Nets to claim that finish.

Embiid has been front and centre to their charge throughout the season and has averaged slightly more points per game than the current favourite to win the MVP award.

Embiid has averaged 28.5 points per game this season and has success rates of 37.7% from three-point range, and 51.3% from the field.

All of those stats from the regular season are higher than any average that he has recorded in previous seasons, and it is undeniable that the Sixers are a threat going into the playoffs with the quality that they have on their roster.

Embiid will be their star in the post-season, and expectations will be on the 27-year-old leading them deep into the competition.

Steph Curry

LeBron James admitted before the Lakers play-in game against the Golden State Warriors that he believed that the race for the MVP award was a closed case, as Steph Curry had been the outstanding player throughout the regular season.

It would be hard to argue against that, judging by the number that he has been recording this season.

Curry has averaged a higher points per game average this season than at any other point in his career, as he has averaged 32 points per game. That is a whole two points higher than his previous career-best, which was set in the 2015-16 season.

The efficiency in his game is something to behold, as he has averaged 48.2% from the floor and 42.1% from three-point range this season.

The Warriors were knocked out of the playoffs by the Memphis Grizzlies in their last game of the season, but the performances of Curry throughout the regular season shouldn’t be forgotten.

It looks that the former champions are back on the right track, and the most important factor behind that resurgence has been the performances of Curry after a long layout through injury.
