2020/2021 Premier League Season to begin September 12

The Premier League has confirmed that the 2020/2021 Premier League season will begin on September 12 and finishes on May 23 behind close door. The start date comes a bit late due to coronavirus pandemic.

The suspension of football in March due to the threatening coronavirus pandemic affected the usual month for the starting of a new Premier League season.

It has also shortened the summer break for football players as the Champions League will be starting next month which is supposed to be a summer break for football players.

Liverpool lifted this season's EPL title after their 5-3 win against Chelsea at the Anfield stadium. It is the first time the club is lifting the tournament since it was founded on 20 February 1992.

The Premier League current campaign finishes on Sunday with all matches kicking off at 4 pm UK time. One of Chelsea, Manchester United and Leicester City will be hoping to seal its champions league qualification.

Norwich city, the giant killers of the season has already been relegated from the Premier League, and two of Bournemouth, Watford FC and Aston Villa will join them on Sunday.

From the championship, Leeds United returns to the premier league next season after getting promoted, thanks to a goal from on-loan Arsenal youngster Emile Smith Rowe. West Bromwich Albion also got promoted.

the FA cup final is scheduled to be played on Saturday, August 1 at Wembley Stadium before concluding the English League with Championship Play-offs on Tuesday, August 4, also at the Wembley stadium.

The date for the Community Shield Cup which comes a week before the starting of the Premier League is yet to be confirmed. The expectation is that the date will be announced after the FA Cup final between Chelsea and Arsenal at Wembley.

The EFL also revealed that the Sky bet Championship, League One and League Two will follow in line with Premier League schedule to start the same weekend and end on May 8, 2021. The play-off finals will take place over the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May.

According to EPL, the players and staffs will continue to maintain social distancing and that the tournament will continue to be played behind close doors. The spectators may return on October 1 on a social distancing basis.

The statement reads: "Premier League shareholders today agreed to start the 2020-21 Premier League season on September 12, 2020.

"The final match round of the campaign will take place on May 23, 2021. The Premier League will continue to consult the FA and EFL regarding the scheduling of all domestic competitions."
