Barcelona player tests positive ahead of Bayern match

FC Barcelona has confirmed that one of its players have tested positive for coronavirus ahead of their upcoming champions league quarter-final match against Bayern Munich.

The club said that the player is not among the members of the first-team that will be travelling to Libson on Thursday for their quarter-final match against the champions of Bundesliga, Fc Bayern Munich.

Despite that, Barcelona also confirmed that the player is among the nine senior players who are in standby in case of unforeseen injuries. Also, these standby players are training separately from the first-team squad available for the trip to Portugal.

The nine players on Tuesday returned for testing ahead of the pre-season on Wednesday. Barcelona confirmed that the player had been placed in isolation.

"After the PCR tests carried out yesterday Tuesday afternoon to the group of nine players who today have to start pre-season, one of them has tested positive for Covid-19.

"The affected person is asymptomatic, is in good health and is isolated at home.

"The club has informed the competent sports and health authorities. In addition, all the people who had contact with the player have been traced to carry out the corresponding PCR tests.

"The player has not been in contact with the members of the first team who plan to travel to Lisbon tomorrow Thursday."

Barcelona's new signing Francisco Trincão who joined from Portuguese club Braga was among the players that participated in the test alongside Matheus Fernandes, Jean-Clair Todibo, Moussa Wagué, Carles Aleñá, Rafinha, Miranda and Oriol Busquets.

Barcelona will be playing Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final at Lisbon on Friday, August 14, 2020.

The club has not won any trophy this season and will be hoping to beat Bayern in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
