Dries Mertens to commit his future to Napoli amid Chelsea interest
Napoli's striker Dries Mertens has agreed to sign a contract with his club which will see him stay at the club till 2022
Chelsea is looking to boost their squad after they were banned from buying players in the last season summer transfer and also failing to acquire a single player in the January transfer.
Napoli's Dries Mertens was one of the players the club was hoping to sign to increase their attacking force.
Last week Chelsea saw their bid for the striker rejected by both the 33-year-old Belgium international and Napoli. It is now understood that Mertens will sign a new contract with Napoli that will be in effect until June 2022.
what's left is just paperwork time between the club and Mertens lawyers.
Chelsea will be looking for other players as their deal with Mertens did not work out. Chelsea is also believed to have interest in signing of Leceister city's Left-back Ben Chilwell who is valued at £60m by his club.
They have already sign Hakim Ziyech from the Netherland club Ajax and have agreed on a deal to sign RB Leipzig's forward, Timo Werner.
Mertens has been a big part of Napoli team since joining Napoli in 2013 scoring 90 goals in 226 appearances with 26 of his goals coming Europe tournament. Napoli will be happy to see one their best attacker finalise the contract with them.
