The Premier League is the best in the world for one reason and one reason alone: Entertainment.

The unpredictability of England's top division makes it gripping viewing each season, while its penchant for stunning goals and assists keeps fans around the world on the edges of their seats.

It's well-publicised who the highest scorers in Premier League history are, no less because of the Golden Boot's prominence, and even the top providers are given their fair share of praise.

However, as statistics start to take over the beautiful game more and more, there has been a greater impetus on players with the largest goal contributions (both goals and assist combined).

Historically, that's not a data-set that has been tracked across Premier League history and most fans would be hard-pressed to name any of the winners with any confidence.

Legendary players

If ever we needed confirmation that Thierry Henry is the greatest player in Premier League history, we've been given it today.

The fact the Arsenal star was the leading goal contributor in the English top-flight across four out of five seasons in the early 2000s proves he's the most complete forward these shores have ever seen.

However, we should also reserve due to praise for midfielders like Gerrard and Nani who, despite not necessarily being prolific scorers, have assisted their way to a place into the record books.

And at the opposite end of the spectrum, fair play to forwards such as Shearer and Aguero who have made the cut by compensating for a lack of assists with sheer goal-scoring brilliance.

So, there's numerous ways to achieve the accolade, but only a select number of players have done so and it makes for one of the most exclusive clubs in Premier League history.

Only time will tell whether Kevin De Bruyne will hold on long enough to bag himself entry...
