There is no future for Cavani and Silva next season - PSG sporting director
Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo said that there is no future in the club for the club captain Thiago Silva and striker Edison Cavani next season. Speaking with French publication journal de Finance, Leonardo stated that the two players would part ways with PSG when Champions League finishes in August even though it was a hard decision to make.
"The idea is to continue playing with them until the end of August," Leonardo said.
"It was a very difficult decision to make; these are players who have marked the history of the club ...Their stories were so beautiful. But yes, we are coming to the end.
"We had to make a logical decision, economically speaking and with regard to the generation that is coming through."
The French Giant(PSG) is currently the latest champion of Ligue 1 which was crowned after the termination of 2019/2020 Ligue 1 season in April by French football association due to coronavirus pandemic.
Cavani signed for PSG in 2013 from Italian side Napoli, since his arrival he has scored 138 goals for the Club, taking PSG all-time highest scorer. Last season there was speculation that he was set to join Athletic Madrid in Spain, but they deal never went through.
According to ESPN, silva is hoping to stay in Europe and play for another top club for at least two more seasons and would be willing to take a cut on his €211,000-per-week existing wage.
The Club is currently in the quarter-final of the Champions League, and both Cavani and Silva will be hoping to lift the trophy with the Club before departing.
