Former Super Eagle coach is set to return to EPL as West Ham United are in talks to sign him as reported by Tribal Football.

The 33-year-old Nigerian mild fielder became a free agent in March, after terminating his contract with the Turkish side, Trabzonspor.

Mikel Obi left the club after refusing to play following the COVID-19 outbreak as the authorities refused to suspend league games in March.

After quitting Trabzonspor, Mikel Obi had been strongly linked with Brazilian sides, Botafogo and Internacional, with the player himself confirming the interest.

However, it seems he is set to make a return to English football as the Hammers are already in talks with him.

Meanwhile, West Ham United are battling relegation with just five more games to the end of the season. His experience could be valuable for the Hammers next season if they avoid the drop this campaign.

According to Complete Sport, the 33-year-old's final decision will be based on if West Ham remains in the English topflight next season.

It was also reported that West Brom is interested in signing the former Chelsea midfielder.

According to Italian news media outfit Gianlucadimarzio, Benevento has confirmed their interest in signing Mikel, who is a free agent after leaving Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor in March.
