Dear reader,

We now feature real-life stories in our lifestyle section. So, share your stories! It could be about surviving the Nigerian economy or how you handled a bad breakup. Whatever it is, hit us up.😀

Like its foreign counterparts, the Nigerian educational system consists of two major departments: arts and sciences, which house many courses spread over several faculties.

The art department is the most popular in Nigerian institutions. This may be attributed to easier admission requirements for courses under art departments, such as lower cut-off marks for art courses.

Though some science courses are easier to obtain than art courses, the importance of art courses in Nigeria and globally cannot be understated, as they are heavily relied on in certain areas.

Most scholars interested in studying art courses have difficulty deciding which course to take. If you fall into this category, you do not need to worry; we have compiled a list of art courses for you to choose from.

Below is the list of art courses in Nigeria:

Tips for securing admission to study art course in Nigerian universities

Securing admission into the university as an art student could be difficult but here are few tips that can help you scale through:

  1. Proper preparation: Take time to prepare for you JAMB. Go through Jamb syllabus for each subject and cover at least 95% if not 100% of the topics in the syllabus. A lot of universities do not conduct aptitude test examination any more they rely solely on your JAMB score. So the higher your score, the higher your chances of securing admission.
  2. Score higher than the cut-off mark: Try as much as you can to score higher than the required cut-off mark. For instance if your chosen course is law with cut-of mark between 220 to 280 depending on the university, you should score at least 300. This will increase your chances of gaining admission.
  3. Follow up with your preferred university's requirements: A lot of universities have their own requirements aside JAMB's requirements. Research and follow up with their requirements. You can find some of these requirements in your JAMB brochure.
