The Cameroon national team suffered a crushing defeat in their opening 2022 World Cup match against Switzerland on Thursday afternoon at Qatar's Al Janoub Stadium.
The match, which ended 0-0 in the first half, appeared to be an even challenge for both sides as they shared 50-50 possession.
Three minutes into the second half, Cameroonian-born player Breel Embolo stroked in Xherdan Shaqiri's low cross to break the deadlock.
Breel Embolo was close to doubling the lead in the 66th minute when a well-played corner kick by Shaqiri, which was coming his way, was cleared by Napoli's midfielder Andre Zambo Anguissa.
Despite multiple attempts from the Indomitable Lions, they failed to capitalize on Switzerland on multiple occasions, as the match ended just one-nil in favour of Rossocrociati.
Cameroonian fans appeared devastated after seeing their compatriots score against them and fail to equalise despite producing four shots on target.
Cameroon now sit at the bottom of Group G in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, behind Brazil and Serbia, both of whom will compete tonight.
The Indomitable Lions will have to wait until Monday, November 28, for the second leg of their World Cup tournament against Serbia at Al Janoub Stadium at 11 a.m.
