In the Nigerian entertainment industry, it is a novel experience to find two of the most renowned actors and actresses, musicians and comedians, film directors, and other entertainers falling in love with each other. This is the concept of “Power Couples” in the entertainment industry. In this article, Nigerian Power Couples such as Kemi Adetiba and Oscar Heman-Ackah, Temi Otedola and Mr Eazi, Simi and Adekunle Gold, Joke Silva and Olu Jacobs, Banky W and Adesua Etomi will be spotlighted.

1. Kemi Adetiba and Oscar Heman-Ackah

Kemi Adetiba is a renowned Nigerian filmmaker, television director, and music video director. She's popular for writing, co-producing, and directing the Nigerian crime political thriller King of Boys (2018) and its sequel, King of Boys: The Return of the King (2021). She also directed and was featured at The Wedding Party (2016). 

Just like Kemi Adetiba, Oscar Heman-Ackah, who is a Ghanaian Nigerian, is a music executive, creative entrepreneur, media solutions, and film director. Oscar Heman-Ackah became famous in January 2022, following his engagement to Kemi Adetiba and their marriage in April of the same year. His name made rounds once again in 2024 for his creative genius, following the release of Finding Messiah's thriller, a film set in Nigeria featuring veteran actors such as Pete Edochie and Ngozi Ezeonu.

Referring to Finding Messiah, Kemi Adetiba has taken to social media to actively support her husband's work, describing him as a “genius.” Oscar has repeatedly called his wife “the most amazing wife, partner, friend and everything in between.” Being married to one's creative soulmate is an experience that only powerful couples such as Kemi Adetiba and Oscar Heman-Ackah can relate to.

2. Temi Otedola and Mr Eazi

Temi Otedola is a Nigerian actress and daughter to the famous Femi Otedola, a Nigerian businessman and philanthropist worth 1.5 billion USD as of 2024. Temi Otedola rose to fame when she embodied the main character of the film Citation (2020) for which she won Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 2021 Ghana Movie Awards. Temi Otedola got engaged to Mr. Eazi in April 2022, after which they got married at a private wedding in Venice. 

32-year-old Mr. Eazi, a popular Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record executive, is a known personality in Nigerian music who has won many awards, including Best New Artiste (2016) at the Soundcity MVP awards and Special Recognition Award Music Video Africa for "Skin Tight" (featuring Efya) at the WatsupTV Africa Music Video Awards.

The couple co-hosts the podcast How Far? with Mr Eazi and Temi Otedola, in which they discuss a variety of ideas, from style to entertainment to their personal lives and how far they have come in their love story. What other definition can you give a Power Couple, if not Temi Otedola and Mr. Eazi? 3. Simi and Adekunle Gold

Simi, a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress, is one of Nigeria's sweethearts in the Nigerian music industry. Simi showed up as one of the top judges of the Nigerian Idol TV show in 2022. However, the start of her career dates back to 2008, when she released her debut studio album, Ogaju. Simi has won 7 Headies, 3 City People Entertainment Awards, and even NET Honours, among many other awards. She was cast in Mokalik, a 2019 film directed by Kunle Afolayan. She got married to Adekunle Gold in 2019 after dating for 5 years.

Adekunle Gold is a Nigerian Afrobeat singer and songwriter who blew up in 2015 after his release of sensational songs Sade, Orente and Pick Up. Adekunle Gold is widely loved by Nigerians and has released 5 studio albums. In 2015, he won Best New Act at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards, Best Song for Pick Up in 2016, and Best Alternative Song for Sade in 2016, among many more awards. It is safe to say that Adekunle Gold has made his mark in the Nigerian Music industry and continues to do so in collaboration with his wife, Simi.

This Nigerian power couple has collaborated several to create beautiful magic in the form of songs. Some of these songs are No Forget, Take Me Back, Promise, Happy Birthday, and Look What You Made Me Do.

4. Joke Silva and Olu Jacobs

Joke Silva is a veteran actress and director in the Nigerian film industry. She has been active in Nollywood since 1990. She has featured in many popular films such as Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti (2024), Elesin Oba: The King's Horseman (2022), Chief Daddy 2: Going for Broke (2022), Namaste Wahala (2021) and Two Weeks in Lagos (2019). Joke Silva has won numerous awards for her filmography, including Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2006 at the 2nd Africa Movie Academy Awards and Best Actress in a Supporting Role in 2008 at the 4th Africa Movie Academy Awards. 

Joke Silva is married to Olu Jacobs, a fellow actor and film executive in the Nigerian music industry. Olu Jacobs has been cast in several international films and has been deemed one of the greatest African actors of his time. The actor has over 40 years of experience in Nollywood and has also won numerous awards. Olu Jacobs married Joke Silva in 1989 after meeting in 1981 at the National Theatre, Lagos. 

This Nollywood couple founded the Lufodo group, a media organisation involved in film production and distribution. Despite the difficulty, Joke Silva has selflessly set a good example by supporting her husband through his Dementia. Their 35-year marriage has set a precedent for other Nigerian entertainment couples, reinforcing the belief that Nigerian celebrity love stories can also last.

5. Banky W and Adesua Etomi

Banky W is a Nigerian singer, rapper, and actor who has been active in the Nigerian Music industry since 2002. He has released 3 studio albums and has starred in films such as The Wedding Party (2016), The Wedding Party 2: Destination Dubai, Up North (2018) and Sugar Rush (2019). Banky W starred in The Wedding Party with Adesua Etomi, both of them being main characters. Their stellar performance in the film sparked the interest of Nigerian fans who speculated as to whether their story would soon become one of the Nigerian celebrity love stories.

Adesua Etomi and Banky W tied the knot formally in November 2017, the same year that Banky W had a skin cancer surgery, throughout which his wife supported and stood by him. As successful Nollywood couples, this duo is a strong power couple that fans are constantly gushing over and praising their relationship dynamics and how well they complement each other.
