Uzor Arukwe Clears the Air: “If I Were Gay, I Would Own It”

Recently, celebrated Nigerian actor Uzor Arukwe has suddenly become the talk of the town over his sexual orientation.

Arukwe is known for his versatility in Nollywood movie productions, and his performance in the movie ‘Love in Every Word’ made the conversations go beyond his acting prowess into his personal life.

How the Rumor Started

Arukwe’s sexuality has sparked conjecture because of his depiction of Obiora in “Love in Every Word.” The film uses Obiora as a character who is forthright and expressive in his affections for Chioma, the lead female character of the film. Such brazen honesty has stirred some significant interest, especially in a world in which male heroes often seem reserved or guarded about feeling.

Reports show that murmurs about Arukwe's sexuality started soon after the film was released, with some audience members branding his tender, loving depiction as “too soft” or “simp-like.”

This rumor quickly found its way to X (formerly Twitter), where users in great number, most of whom labeled themselves “alpha males,” condemned the sensitivity of the character, hence taking his acting out of context and relating it to Uzor Arukwe's personal life.

Others even likened such emotional expression to men who are feminine and gay, sparking online speculation despite there being no confirmed evidence of his sexuality.

Uzor Arukwe addressed the Rumor

In a recent interview on 'Unfiltered and Extra Spicy, ' Uzor Arukwe addressed the rumors head-on. He was stunned when he heard the rumor, telling the interviewer that he was ‘shocked to his bones’ but also intrigued because there’s a long history of such rumors occurring around people becoming famous. But he flatly denied the accusations, saying: 'I will not agree to what I am not, just because to some people they are a certain type of people.'

“For me, let God judge". "If it were my sexuality, I would own it, “I will be one of the hottest around. I'd own it with my chest.” Arukwe added. He also talked of his close relationships with a lot of gay friends as being in support and acceptance of them.
